For Horn and piano
It Grows and Grows (2011) for horn and piano is an offshoot or ‘relative’ of D-Bop: Sonata No. 2a for solo piano, itself a work that sprung up from material in my Opera 101, a brief 10-minute opera composed for the Frost Opera Theater. A short one-movement work, It Grows and Grows is basically a duo in which the horn is in dialogue with selected material, literal or what varied, from the piano sonata. The title for the work refers to the growth of material in a sectionalized formal scheme that continues to expand and evolve throughout the work.
