Ontologies: Pre-Socratic Etudes (1979)
keyboard_arrow_downOntologies: Pre-Socratic Etudes (1979) were begun as part of a long-term project representing my interests and work in both philosophy and music. Essentially the intention was to create musical analogues (if they can be achieved) to philosophical notions – valid or not – of significant philosophers in the history of philosophy that would lead to interesting compositional artifacts. The Pre- Socratics were interested in discovering and describing the nature of the world/reality:
Heraclitus – change (everything is in the state of flux)
Democritus – atoms
Parmenides – permanence (there is no change or “all is one”)
